2024-25 Casebook Released & Officials Certification Launched

The USQ Officials Team under the Gameplay Department has some announcements and updates as the season begins.

Officials Certification

Officials Certification has opened for Fall 2024-Spring 2025. The Assistant Referee, Seeker Referee, and Lead Assistant Referee Exam are all available at members.usquadball.org/ref. There is no limit to the number of times the exam can be completed, and only one passing score is needed to become certified.

  • Assistant Referees must pass the Assistant Referee Exam.

  • Flag Runners must pass the Seeker Referee Exam

  • Seeker Referees must pass the Assistant Referee and Seeker Referee Exam

  • Lead Assistant Referees and Head Referees must pass the Assistant Referee, Seeker Referee, and Lead Assistant Referee Exams.

  • Head Referees may also be required to field test based on their tier. Previously certified Head Referees should have received an email with their status of tier and recertification needs in an email. More information on the recertification exam will be available soon.

The officials requirements for teams for the 2024-2025 season will be as follows:

  • 1 Head Referee (includes field test)

  • 2 Lead Assistant Referees per team

  • 1 Seeker Referee per team

  • 2 Assistant Referees per team

  • 1 Flag Runner per team

Officials requirements will be due by January 26th. A spreadsheet showing certified officials by team will be available beginning late November.

Officials Resources

Referee One-Pagers are available on a range of topics in the google drive folder here and linked at members.usquadball.org/ref.

The 2024-2025 Casebook is also linked here, and the first version for this fall has been released. In the casebook, you’ll find examples of plays that have been called one way or inconsistently throughout the season, and have been given an official ruling from the US Quadball Officials and Rules Teams to be used during the 2024-2025 US Quadball season.

Based on community feedback and officials check ins over the season, the casebook will be updated the first week of each month to clarify how certain calls should be adjudicated. For questions, please reach out to referees@usquadball.org.

Tournament Directors can continue to request field test opportunities when having their events. To make sure proctors are available to attend their events, TDs should reach out as soon as possible to christian.barnes@usquadball.org and/or referees@usquadball.org.
