New Board Members and Committee Opportunities

USQ welcomes two new members to the Board of Directors, effective September 2022: Jeremy Schleicher and Shirley Lu. 

Schleicher and Lu, current volunteers of USQ, were selected as part of the board’s open and ongoing recruitment for driven, knowledgeable, and creative members this season. Together, they bring a combined 27 years of experience with the sport in various roles to the board. Schleicher will join the Board's Nomination and Governance Committee and Lu will join the Advisory Committee.

Jeremy Schleicher

Jeremy Schleicher (he/they) has been involved with quadball since 2007 as a spectator, player, coach, general event volunteer, and staff member. Currently, he is the Championship Events Manager for USQ, coordinating events such as USQ's regional and national championships. Additionally, they are the Director of Operations for the International Quadball Association (IQA), where he develops financial, logistical, and staffing policies for the international tier of the sport. Professionally, Schleicher has degrees in fields including IT, communications, and leadership theory and is a Technical Trainer for the Manhattan-based law firm Cravath, Swaine & Moore.

Shirley Lu

Shirley Lu (she/her) was introduced to quadball in the summer of 2010 and started playing in 2011 with her college team, the Whomping Wellesleys. Since then, she has been a player, captain, and manager for Silicon Valley Skrewts (USQ), San Francisco Argonauts (MLQ), Bay Area Breakers (USQ), and San Francisco Fog (WCQ). In 2016, Lu started contributing to quadball media as a photographer and has covered many players, teams, and tournaments at many events across the United States. She has also been a long-time volunteer for USQ. She helped organize USQ Northeast Regionals in 2012 and 2013, World Cups 6 and 7; served on USQ's first DEI committee; contributed as a USQ web developer; and is currently a USQ West Region Coordinator. Lu is a software engineer in her professional life, with experience at Apple and Humane and in highly cross-functional environments to collaborate, develop, and launch significant products for iCloud and Apple Music. She also received a high-impact non-profit board service certificate from TurnOut's QBC.

Additional Information

Brandi Cannon-Force has stepped down from the Board of Directors, effective October 2022. Cannon has been an invaluable member of USQ as a long-time volunteer, tournament director, DEI committee chair and founder, and board member. USQ thanks them for their many years of service. 

The board is currently accepting applications for new board members year-round. If you have experience and expertise in accounting, finance, law, human resources, etc., and are interested in applying, please fill out this application! We are currently reviewing all incoming applications.

Advisory Committee Member

The main responsibilities of USQ's advisory board will be to provide a space for community members to provide feedback and suggestions to the board. This includes reviewing the organization structure, mission impact on the community, and the relationship between the league and stakeholders. Advisory committee activities include:

  • Email communication

  • Virtual meetings based on committee availability and scheduling

  • Participation in committee-assigned tasks

All candidates must demonstrate a vested interest in the sport of quadball, but are not otherwise required to be involved in its play or management. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Strong candidates should have a developed sense of professionalism and decorum, a diverse skill set, and some experience with the members of the sport, whether as a player/staff on a team, within USQ as a volunteer, or consistent spectator of an event. The best candidates are supportive of our mission and values, detail-oriented, and able to discuss complex issues.
